" You can have any woman in the city. What do you really want?"
LOGAN'S RUN depicts a utopian, hedonistic, society on the surface, revealed as a dystopia where the population and the preservation of resources are maintained by killing everyone who reaches the age of thirty. The story follows the actions of Logan 5, a Run- whoops, I mean, "Sandman" who has terminated others who have attempted to escape death, and is now faced with termination himself. I’ve said before if I’m not into something, it’s going to be hard to willingly give it my full attention, thus it’ll take longer to get through. This film was no exemption. It’s apparent that before there was Star Wars or Blade Runner there was Logan’s Run. Additionally, my word, If there were ever a movie made to be remade, and so desperately in need of an update, it’s LOGANS RUN. I’m not the biggest consumer of Sci-Fi as a whole, but even I was underwhelmed at the visual effects, despite the early release year of the movie. I found myself unable to switch off my cinematic eyes, and was repeatedly taken out of the viewing experience by the dated effects of the movie. This fact, coupled with an steadily maturing attention span, made it hard for me to follow with the story.
Speaking of the story, let’s discuss that and inspiration for a moment. There were some clear influence on the works of Blade Runner, Planet of the Apes, and The Island, which is the only true Michael Bay film I may actually love. There’s much to say about the rich Costume and Color Design, especially in the early parts of the movie, where we’re introduced to this world and it’s inhabitants. It’s always so funny to see older films depicting the future and seeing how off folks back in the day were about cultural society of the future. Typically, I like to think I’m not as hard on some aspects that just can’t be helped. Unlike most films I’ve seen on this binge, I think this one really suffers from being a product of its time and and aging poorly, even if one could see how this was just right for its time. Some of the acting throughout is hit or miss, and some of the plot is a little convoluted at times. It’s more recommended for Science Fiction junkies, fans of Micheal York, Farrah Fawcett (I guess), and flicks with a heavy 70’s stamp all over it. It is not a Ricky Nixx film, but I’m sure a remake helmed by Denis Villeneuve, Christopher Nolan, or James Gunn would be.
