REEL TALK: JOE ROGAN STRANGE TIMES***

"We didn't practice that!"

Joe Rogan Stange times features the former fear-factor host performing in front of a raucous Boston crowd. As a special that is now several years old, he waste no time diving into the early presidency of Trump, then sliding into material on The Amendments. I was Really digging the comparisons related to having Trump as our president is like dating a whore, after breaking up with a boring but sensible girlfriend.

Later, we get a bit on sexism towards boys when Joe recounts the story of how in Florida hot female cops pose as high school students, and persuade boys to get them weed just to arrest them. “You ever talk to a 17 year old girl? They don’t know what the fuck they’re saying. They’re basically just practicing talking.” Next, we're treated a flurry of material on professional wrestling, and I couldn’t have been prouder. Then I was privileged to learn about vegan cats, which led to more material about pets and pets eating other pets and various pet material. Which, to be honest, is kind of where he lost me for a bit.

One thing I noticed at this time is something I noticed about the way the special was directed. Not a whole lot of editing or cutting back-and-forth to the crowd to gauge their reaction’s. The camera mostly just stayed on Rogan the entire time which I thought was kind of odd. To conclude, this was a tale of two specials for me, in the sense that I laughed more the first half of the special than the second half. By the end, I was ready for it to be over, and it took me a while to while to finish. As indifferent as I am about this special, I’m not totally against the idea of checking out more of his material. It also bears mentioning that i'm not an avid follower of his podcast and overall presence in the media. It's worth a watch, but if I were a comic, this would not be a Ricky Nixx special.
