REEL TALK: HEARTBURN***

"I'm not angry at you."

So, I went into this movie specifically for the cast and I was not disappointed. I’ve said it once, and I will say it again, Meryl Streep is easily is my opinion, the greatest actor or actress in the history of cinema. A strong case can be made for Jack as well, but in all fairness this was a very straightforward, vanilla cinematic endeavor for him. This movie was pretty good I wouldn’t say there was too much about it that was memorable. It boasted two larger than life acting power houses and roles that they will most likely not be remembered for. In other words, they both have long ranging filmographies and heartburn will be low on the totem pole as far as memorable films for the either performer. Speaking of great performances we were treated to a small part by Mercedes Ruehl, a very young Kevin Spacey in a small role as a mugger, and supporting roles by both Jeff Daniels and Milos Forman. As I said before the movie is fine, But there seems to be more plot than actual story. Don’t get me wrong, I read the plot and I was all in, but once I got what was promised there was nothing more to be found. It simply did not leave much of an impression on me, but once again that’s not to say it’s bad. Despite the screen being shared by both Nicholson and Streep, it is clearly Meryls movie, in my opinion. Now I know she’s always been an acting goddess, not just in old age. Heartburn is a simple romantic, and somewhat cautionary tale, with not a whole lot of depth. My favorite aspect was the masterpiece theatre running gag on the TV. Come for the cast, like i did, but don't expect much beyond that with regards to, editing, cinematography, production design, etc. It Is not a Ricky Nixx film.
